My Ultimate Travel Bucket List: Dream Destinations I Can’t Wait to Visit

There’s something magical about a travel bucket list. It’s more than just a wish list of places… it’s a source of inspiration, a reminder to dream big, and a challenge to turn those dreams into reality. Over the years, I’ve ticked off some incredible destinations, from standing in awe before the Great Pyramids of Giza to tracing my family history in Corfu, Greece, alongside my dad. But the list keeps growing, and every destination I visit only fuels my desire to see more of the world.

So, what’s currently on my bucket list? These are the destinations that really light me up.

1. Oman – A Desert Adventure Awaits

The Middle East has captured my heart in recent years, and Oman is at the top of my list. With its golden dunes, dramatic canyons, and rich cultural history, it’s a country that feels untouched by mass tourism.

I almost made it to Oman this year, but when I checked flights, I realised it would take me over 48 hours and four flights to get there (from Brisbane, Australia)… without leaving me enough time to truly experience it. Oman deserves more than a rushed trip. When I go, I want to take my time, explore Muscat’s markets, road trip through the mountains, and camp under the desert stars.

Safety is always a consideration for solo female travel, but from everything I’ve read, Oman is one of the safest destinations in the region. Whether I go solo or with a travel buddy, this adventure is happening!

2. Iceland – Land of Fire, Ice & Midnight Sun

For someone who thrives in warm weather, you might be surprised to see Iceland on my bucket list. But this country’s otherworldly landscapes… glaciers, black sand beaches, and volcanic fields… completely captivate me.

Iceland is a place I need to visit twice: once in summer to experience the midnight sun and drive the Ring Road, and once in winter to (hopefully!) see the Northern Lights. There’s something thrilling about the idea of exploring at 10 pm with the sun still shining, hiking to hidden waterfalls, and soaking in natural hot springs after a long day of adventures.

A road trip is the way to go in Iceland, and I can already picture myself behind the wheel, stopping at every breathtaking viewpoint along the way.

3. Lapland, Finland – Chasing the Northern Lights

Lapland is a winter wonderland straight out of a fairytale. I want to visit in December, when everything is blanketed in snow, reindeer wander through the forests, and the Northern Lights dance across the sky.

Growing up in Australia, in region where winter days rarely dip below 20°C, the idea of sledding through frozen landscapes and sleeping in an igloo hotel is both terrifying and thrilling. But let’s be honest… this trip is all about the Northern Lights. If I make it all the way to the Arctic Circle and don’t see them, I’ll be devastated. Fingers crossed for clear skies!

4. Tonga – Swimming with Humpback Whales

Tonga is one of the few places in the world where you can swim with humpback whales in the wild… ethically. As a passionate animal lover, this experience is at the top of my list.

I almost went this year, but the whale migration didn’t align with my travel dates. To make the most of the experience, I want to get my free diving certification so I can truly immerse myself in their world. Tonga is one of the least touristy destinations in the South Pacific, and I can’t wait to soak in its raw, untouched beauty.

5. The Solomon Islands – An Undiscovered Paradise

If you’re looking for an off-the-beaten-path island escape, the Solomon Islands should be on your radar. This archipelago is even less touristy than Tonga, offering pristine beaches, vibrant marine life, and a rich cultural heritage.

The biggest challenge? Getting around. The islands aren’t set up for mass tourism, so transportation can be tricky. But that’s all part of the adventure! I’d love to island-hop, visit remote villages, and dive some of the world’s most spectacular reefs.

6. Antarctica – The Ultimate Bucket List Destination

Antarctica feels like the final frontier of travel… a place so remote and untouched that it almost seems mythical. The icy landscapes, the vast silence, the chance to see penguins and seals in their natural habitat… it’s a dream.

The catch? It’s insanely expensive. Flying in and staying at a luxury camp costs upwards of $50,000 (yikes!), while expedition cruises start at around $13,000. On top of that, I’m not a fan of cruises, and the idea of crossing the Drake Passage… a stretch of notoriously rough sea… makes me nervous.

But if the opportunity arises, whether through a collaboration or a milestone birthday splurge, I’ll be on the first ship to Antarctica.

7. Turkey – A Journey Through History

Turkey is a country that has fascinated me for years. From the bustling bazaars of Istanbul to the ancient ruins of Ephesus and the fairy-tale landscapes of Cappadocia, it’s a blend of history, culture, and stunning scenery.

As an Australian, visiting Gallipoli for an Anzac Day dawn service would be an incredibly meaningful experience. Walking through the battlefields where so many Australian and New Zealand soldiers fought is something I’ve always wanted to do.

And let’s not forget the food… known for its baklava, mezze, and Turkish coffee!

8. Cuba – A Country Frozen in Time

Cuba is likely my next big trip, and I’m beyond excited. The vintage cars, the colonial architecture, the infectious rhythms of salsa… it’s a country unlike any other.

Because of its complex history, Cuba feels like a place trapped in time, but I know that’s changing. I want to experience Havana before it becomes too modernised, then venture into the countryside to see the real Cuba.

This trip is happening soon, so stay tuned!

9. Namibia – The Desert Dream

Namibia’s landscapes look like something from another planet… towering sand dunes, skeleton coastlines, and eerie dead-tree valleys. It’s not the easiest place to get to, but I’m determined to see it for myself.

Luxury desert camps here are next-level, and while they come with a hefty price tag, they seem worth every cent. This is the kind of trip where I’d splurge on an epic safari experience and sleep under the stars.

10. Peru & Machu Picchu – A Classic for a Reason

Yes, it’s cliché. Yes, everyone goes. But I have to visit Machu Picchu. The question is… do I do the Inca Trail?

With limited annual leave, I don’t know if I’ll have time for the full trek, but even taking the train to Aguas Calientes and hiking up for sunrise would be an unforgettable experience. Plus, Peru has so much more to offer… rainbow mountains, the Amazon, and incredible food.
